Versatile Bog for Wearables

During the Network for Wearable Art meeting, several members shared holiday wearables.
Karen E. suggested starting with January and move through the year of holidays
— Please help me with this as I didn't record all of the participants.  Represented holiday garments
were:
  • Valentine's Day — Bonnie McMaster Anderson's jacket using, ready for this, Vogue 1985 pattern?  (This is totally an insider's joke for NWA members, but it should be mentioned for non-member's benefit — this pattern was used heartily during the 1990's.  out of print — sorry!)
  • Fall — Helen McNaughton's jacket with techniques supporting the fall motifs
  • Fall — Meda Benefield's jacket made from challenge fabric for the 1st fabric wearable challenge introduced by her sister, Rene`who was the NWA President at the time.
  • Halloween — Karen Eppler's collar fashioned from a Sylvia Polk idea.
  • Christmas — Pat Haas fitted jacket and skirt with velveteen and cotton patchwork
  • Christmas — Pat Haas vest using Walmart fabrics (she had a cute story about this!)
  • Christmas — My Christmas Bog using the pattern from my Bevy of Bogs pattern booklet, c 1995.
  • New Year's —  Sharon Pluckings brought several knitted sweaters, jackets with matching hats, a Renaissance dress. (Please check out her gallery website)
My Bevy of Bogs book written first published in 1995; I need to go into a third printing.

The cutouts are color Zerox of fabric used in some of my wearables, and then cut and formed into the
Paper Bogs.

Recently, Janet Paluch, Teacher of the Year at Center High in Sacramento, used this book to teach her
students how to make this ancient designed wearable. To follow is an example of Janet's award winning
wearables.  This one is called Orange Sorbet, one of Janet's coats in Rachel Clark's Exhibit
Out of the Crayon Box.

The front of this short, shrug-shaped bog has patchwork on one sleeve, and whole pieces in the other two sections.
There are appliques using blanket stitches, and also dangling miniature ornaments.

I hope you can see there are two darts on the lower back to pull in the piece, giving it the shrug effect.
The shirt is a ready-made.

After our meeting, I felt inspired Sunday morning to sort through fabrics and start designing some new work!  Thank you all so much for all your contributions.
