"The Magic of Theater Costuming"
Monterey Peninsula College
Monterey, CA
Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008

Join us for a day devoted to 'behind-the-scenes' theatrical costume techniques and treasures. Faculty members from the Theatre Department and the Family and Consumer Sciences program will share their expertise in creating costumes and woven textiles and information about the MPC instructional programs. We'll also have the opportunity to attend an MPC Main Stage production of Death of a Salesman in the evening for a reduced ticket price.

The day includes a tour of the MPC costume shop and set shop, a tour of the Family and Consumer Science facilities, a weaving demonstration, and a workshop on distressing costumes. The Workshop will be a "hands-on" workshop that includes transforming costumes into aged, old, "grotty" garments by using non-toxic dyes, paints and household items as diverse and unlikely as Vaseline, cinnamon, and rocks. Wear your painting clothes, old shoes, and bring costumes or other garments you'd like to creatively destroy!

The cost includes a catered luncheon and the CSA Western Region Annual Meeting. You must send in your registration form and payment by October 10.

In the 1960s Yves Saint Laurent made an indelible mark on fashion with clothing emblematic of the new modernity. Yves Saint Laurent, organized by FAMSF and The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts in collaboration with the Fondation Pierre Bergé-Yves Saint Laurent, explores the designs that made Saint Laurent famous, and his inspirations drawn from art, theatre, history, literature, and nature. This exhibition contains nearly 130 accessorized garments and sketches illustrating the lines, colors, and fundamentals of Saint Laurent’s work. This is the only U.S. venue. A catalogue accompanies this exhibition.
