Facebook After Five, Turn to Twitter
Facebook After Five | Turn to Twitter | Set up a Social Event
Social Network Communities are expanding exponentially, and I am one among multiple millions who has added this new form of communication to my repertoire of tech capabilities. Folks, I love it! Here's an example of how fun it is to check in with my network of friends. Tonight after I drove back from the office in Napa, I took off my shoes, put on my sweats, turned on Cable News, put my feet up on the coffee table and opened my Mac Laptop computer, went online, checked email and took care of a few tasks, responding to clients and checking progress on of some tasks.
When work was pretty well wrapped up, I logged into Facebook, scrolled down and read what my friends were thinking about — thoughts ranging from living in Paris to heading for a Tahoe vacation, what wine event was coming up, to political commentary about the proposed health care plan. A red flag on the bottom right of my page popped up indicating I had a post on my status - it was from my friend who is young, smart and totally fun to be around. She asked if I wanted to get together; I said yes! We both have Friday off. Her wit comes through in a suggestion about whether or not to have Italian or Mexican Cuisine at my La Lolet Salon. We went back and forth with our chats about the evening and came up with combining efforts for dinner and to talk food tomorrow to set up the plan. Briefly, some suggestions were: panzanella, home made pesto, wearing gauze skirts, and going barefoot (to honor the Barefoot Contessa) and listening to Andrea Bocelli.
I can't embed the video of Andrea Bocelli singing Romanza but click here to view the video.
While chatting on Facebook, I decided to check in on my Twitter account, which hadn't been touched since November 2008. This is the graphic I designed as the background on my twitter page. I posted a few lines of tweets, joined another tweeter, and decided to tweet more often. It's really kind of cool, and suddenly I'm hungry for sunflower seeds, chirp chirp.

During just a couple hours of socializing online with friends, if this is new to you, it really does indicate what life is like for a lot of us, giving meaning to the term multi-tasking. If I offer anything of value here, it is to encourage you to check out a social network outlet and see if it is fun for you too. Bottom line for me is that the virtual environment is a community, a network of friends and a way to keep in touch. As a result of Facebook, I can now look forward to a Bocelli Noche de Italiana, spending time with friends, creating an amazing dinner while standing barefoot in the kitchen and drinking fabulous Napa Valley wines. Truly from Virtual to Actual - a good thing.
