Audition Fabrics for Leaf Quilt Block
This has been a year of reclamation: bringing forward projects that have been buried for a number of years that now are under cultivation.
The leaf block you will see in the following images is one of those projects. I've included a couple snapshots of the actual pattern from the Napa Valley Quilters, Napa CA, and the postmark. You can see the tiny block pattern on the purple paper and there are pin holes in the cut pieces of purple paper, where I pinned them to the various fabrics.

The pattern is called Autumn Splendor and was the Block for the month of September, 1996 from the Napa Valley Quilters. The postmark is 30 July 1996, and I'm so delighted to be showing you this and sharing part of my Quilter's History.
Now, 14 years later I'm ready to complete the blocks into a quilt. As you can see the blocks are random scraps and need the relief of fabrics that read as solids in order for the leaf design to show. Three colors were my choices to audition in between the 10 pieced Autumn Splendor blocks. The blocks are somewhere between 8 1/2" - 9" so I will cut squares that size of each of the fabrics to be set in between the pieced blocks. I would love your opinion as to which colorway you like the best, and if you are up for it, why you like it.
Ta da - these are the choices:
1. Beige to Brown with a bit of Ochre

2. Reds

3. Turquoise to Grayed-Greens

If you are on my subscriber list, you probably got an incomplete article in your email. Sorry to have clicked the wrong button, but that's technology, isn't it?
Hope you are having a fabulous Spring 2010. I sure will have this quilt finished by Autumn 2010. Cheers!

I liked the golds and they are the traditional color to go with autumn leaves, then I liked the reds better, but I thought the leaves stand out best against the blues and greens. So I vote for #3 even though that's an unusual combination.

Viktorya,
I like the Red. The leaf blocks seem to pop against the deeper color!
Enjoy!
