Girlfriend Salon
The artwork is called Girlfriends, which was a collaborative wearable art piece made by four artists: Carole Reil,Phyllis Orzalli, Leslie Gelber and myself, during the late1990's. We would gather at my house in Napa CA after Network for Wearable Art meetings, listen to rock 'n roll, dance, have splendid feasts and laugh. Since my loft had many twin beds with ample sleeping space, we would have sleep-overs, and then in the morning sit out on my deck that overlooked the Napa River, and really get into profound conversations about art. I could write a book about just that - our Girlfriend Salon.
Much of the collage in this garment came about from telling stories about how our lives were stitched together. The poem in this podcast is by Stevie Smith, called The Pleasures of Friendship and has been a favorite of mine for many years, and is painted on the hand-dyed pink silk scarf. (The poem is printed below the podcast.)
The Pleasures of Friendship
The pleasures of friendship are exquisite,
How pleasant to go to a friend on a visit!
I go to my friend, we walk on the grass,
And the hours and moments like minutes pass.
Short disclaimer: I'm working my way through making podcasts, how to get them toresolve properly within this blog framework, and with other usabilityissues, so please bear with me. I promise to improve.
Have a great Thursday, and for all who are working day jobs, remember - tomorrow is Friday!
