Accent Wearables with Accessories
Last Saturday, I got up in the morning feeling excited about going to the Network for Wearable Art Meeting at JR Flamingo Fabrics in Sacramento . The program was to be presented by Laure Batt and we were going to paint accessories. For me that hit all 8 cylinders, excuse the car metaphor. I was revved up and ready to go! A Black and White checkered flag means a win on the race track, and after I sorted through my wearables, a black and white ensemble came across the finish line as my outfit for the day.
Shoes are off the rack: Sam and Libby.
Coat: Bog Coat - one of my collection made using my Bevy of Bogs pattern booklet - ($12.00 email me)
Earrings: modern black squiggles with white circles
Cropped Pants: off the rack - don't know the brand as I cut off the label - labels bug me sometimes you too?
Black and White Pique Shirt: my design based on a patchwork square

Bog Coat: Reversible
I love this coat! It is quilted with two layers using about 1/2" stitches of pearl cotton. The patchwork side can be seen through the white fabric, giving a shadow effect, which I quite like. You can see the patchwork side is very graphic with an ethnic theme.

Shirt: Original Viktorya Design
Fabric: Black and White Pique
Comfort Level: 10 out of 10 Stars

In order to paint at the NWA meeting, I took my large paint shirt to put on and preserve my good clothes. I took a pair of red shoes and a silver purse to practice on. I have painted shoes before, well, quite frankly I've painted just about anything including fabric, furniture, plates, floorcloths and accessories.
Shoes: off the rack Life Stride
This is what the shoe looked like when new, and I only wore a few times. How often does one wear a plain red shoe?

It was my intention to keep the paint subtle, but then one thing led to another and this is the result. I love how copper metallic looks when painted over red - creates a depth of field to my eye.

I used blue painters tape to preserve a thin read line around the upper part of the shoe, as well as creating a stripe down the center toe area. This gave me a chance to try out using the Fleur dI Lis stamp, one I have used on various paintings.

Paint colors: Copper, Black, Brass, Russett

The next project was a silver purse, and I don't know the brand name. Laure suggested washing over the silver with a lilac Lumiere. Very Cool. Then I tried using a black sharpie pen to describe an eye, and after that first black line, I was just a goner.
This is the end result - Front View

Can you see the lilac cast to the surface?

Dots were made with the head of a nail

A good time was had by all. Laure Batt is a generous and good teacher. Thanks to NWA for a super fun meeting.
